Environmental Responsibility
Logitech and the Global Environment
Logitech takes a proactive approach to environmental product developments by assessing all national or local product related legislation and expanding the requirements to cover our entire product range on a worldwide basis if such action would positively contribute to global environment, health and safety.
As an example, the RoHS Directive places rigorous legal restrictions on certain material content in all products sold in the European Union. Logitech, recognizing the opportunity to enhance global environmental, health and safety, has extended these product restrictions to all of our products sold globally.
Product Stewardship
Logitech is committed to meeting its legal product, packaging and battery stewardship obligations in all countries in which our products are sold.
- Product Hardware Recycling – Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) Directive
Logitech is committed to meeting the requirements of the European Union’s WEEE (Waste from Electrical and Electronic Equipment) Directive and is engaged in the development of country-specific implementation schemes to comply with the national WEEE laws.
The WEEE directive aims to reduce the waste arising from electrical and electronic equipment, and improve the environmental performance of everything involved in the life cycle of electrical and electronic equipment.

- Instructions for Disposal of Waste Equipment by Users in Private Households
This symbol on the product or on its packaging indicates that this product must not be disposed of with your other household waste. Inappropriate disposal may be harmful. Instead, it is your responsibility to dispose of your waste equipment by handing it over to a designated collection point for the recycling of waste electrical and electronic equipment. The separate collection and recycling of your waste equipment at the time of disposal will help to conserve natural resources and ensure that it is recycled in a manner that protects human health and the environment. For more information about where you can drop off your waste equipment for recycling, please contact your local city office, your household waste disposal service or the shop where you purchased the product.
- Packaging and Battery Recycling
Logitech has an active program for packaging stewardship in the province of Ontario, Canada and in some of the EU member states. In the EU member states of Netherlands and Germany, we also have an active program for battery stewardship.
Battery Safety and Disposal Instructions
Logitech products that use batteries have either user-serviceable batteries or non-user-serviceable batteries. Please follow the instructions below for safe handling and proper disposal of each type of battery.
- User-Serviceable Batteries
- Do read the instructions for battery replacement or recharging in your Logitech product's setup or getting-started guide. Make sure to insert new batteries correctly, following the symbols for positioning the positive (+) and negative (-) ends of each battery.
- Do replace batteries with the size and type specified in your Logitech product’s setup or getting-started guide. Remove all batteries from the product at the same time.
- Do charge rechargeable batteries with the instructions and correct charging equipment supplied with your Logitech product.
- Do store batteries in a cool, dry place at normal room temperature. Remove batteries from devices that will be stored unused for extended periods.
- Do dispose of batteries according to the local laws and regulations of your region. Some batteries may be recycled, and may be accepted for disposal at your local recycling center. If you are not able to identify the applicable rules in your area, please check the instructions of the battery manufacturer.
- Do contact Logitech Customer Support if you have questions about proper handling of batteries. Batteries may present a risk of fire, explosion, or chemical burn if mistreated.
- Do not disassemble, puncture, modify, drop, throw, or cause other unnecessary shocks to batteries.
- Do not dispose of batteries in a fire or trash incinerator, or leave batteries in hot places such as an automobile under direct sunlight.
- Do not store batteries near an oven, stove, or other heat source.
- Do not connect batteries directly to an electrical source, such as a building outlet or automobile power-point.
- Do not place batteries in a microwave oven, or in any other high-pressure container.
- Do not immerse batteries in water or otherwise get them wet.
- Do not short circuit batteries; for example, do not carry loose batteries in a pocket or purse with other metal objects that may inadvertently cause a battery to short circuit.
- Do not use batteries, or charge rechargeable batteries, that appear to be leaking, discolored, rusty, deformed; emit an odor; or are otherwise abnormal.
- Do not touch leaking batteries directly; wear protective material to remove the batteries and dispose of them properly immediately.
- Do not reverse the polarity (positive and negative terminals) of batteries.
- Do not mix used and new batteries, or install used batteries in other equipment.
- Do not charge non-rechargeable batteries, or use unspecified charging instructions or equipment for rechargeable batteries.
- Do not continue to charge batteries beyond the specified time.
- Do not give batteries to young children, or store batteries where children may access them.
- Do not put batteries in your mouth. If swallowed, contact physician or local poison control center immediately.
- Non-User-Serviceable Batteries
Some Logitech products have a non-user-serviceable battery, as specified in the provided setup or getting-started guide. Please do not attempt to change these batteries yourself. Instead, contact Logitech Customer Support for repair or replacement information.
Logitech as an active electronics industry participant
- European Recycling Platform
The first pan-European take-back and compliance system for used electronic products was established in 2002 and Logitech has been an active member of this system since 2004.
The European Recycling Platform enables member companies to fulfill product take-back obligations mandated by the WEEE Directive at a competitive cost. Such a system benefits both customers and the environment.
Resource Reduction
Logitech has redesigned its packaging for a number of products to reduce the amount of materials used. These activities have positively impacted resource and energy reduction in the manufacture and logistics life cycle elements for these products.
Materials Selection, Substitution and Elimination
- Restriction of Hazardous Substances (RoHS)
All Logitech products are compliant with the EU RoHS directive (European Directive on the Restriction of the Use of Certain Hazardous Substances in Electrical and Electronic Equipment).
Substances under ban by ROHS Directive include:
- Cadmium (Cd) -- above 100 PPM
- Lead (Pb) -- above 1000 PPM
- Mercury (Hg) -- above 1000 PPM
- Hexavalent Chromium (Cr+6 , Chromium VI) -- above 1000 PPM
- PBB (polybrominated biphenyls) -- above 1000 PPM
- PBDE (polybrominated diphenyl ethers) -- above 1000 PPM
- Elimination of Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC) packaging materials
Over the last few years, Logitech has been actively eliminating the use of PVC packaging materials by moving to options that are less harmful to the environment and more readily recyclable. We have now eliminated PVC from all new packaging products and no longer design PVC-based packaging. - Beyond RoHS
In addition to legal obligations, Logitech has taken a proactive approach in identifying a number of materials and substances that have been either restricted or entirely banned in products and processes at Logitech and our manufacturing partner sites – see Table 1.

Energy Efficiency
- Battery Life
Logitech takes a total system approach that examines ways to conserve power across the entire product ecosystem, including the power source (battery), the device, its component parts, and the user.
The result is a smart power management solution that extends battery life by using superior power sources, building power management intelligence into cordless devices, and giving users monitoring and management tools to help conserve power.
Progress has been impressive, Logitech cordless products introduced since 2005 extend battery life far beyond the capabilities of their predecessors. Logitech now designs products that make the most use of energy resources by significantly reducing product energy consumption.
- AC Power
For AC powered products, our goal is to meet or exceed the standards set by several programs including the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) ENERGY STAR® program and the California Energy Commission appliance efficiency regulations.
