Logitech MX™ Performance Mice Put Total Control in the Palm of Your Hand

Logitech Sets a New Benchmark for Optical and Cordless Mouse Technology

Fremont, CA - September 23, 2002 - Logitech (NASDAQ: LOGI) (Switzerland: LOGN, LOGZ), today introduced the MX Series of Performance Mice. Designed for the most demanding of conditions, these three new mice from Logitech are engineered to provide advanced precision and control. Powered by the MX Optical Engine, the mice capture up to 4.7 megapixels of surface tracking information every second, more than that of any optical mouse to date. The increased processing power of Logitech's new optical system ensures instant response to even the fastest hand movement and delivers superior tracking on more surfaces than ever. Each model in the new series offers specialized navigation and control features to make the mouse an even more powerful tool for the desktop. These state-of-the-art mice are finished by the innovative new shape and aesthetic qualities, which are a great accompaniment to the design elements of today's modern computer systems. Logitech's MX Series of Performance mice are now available worldwide in retail outlets and online at www.logitech.com. The line-up includes the following:

  • MX™700 Cordless Optical Mouse - The flagship of the new series, the MX700 is the first mouse to feature Logitech's new Fast RF cordless technology; an advanced digital system that delivers the responsiveness of a corded connection, but without the cord. The receiver for the MX700 also serves as a fast charging station. The rechargeable nickel metal-hydride (NiMH) batteries will be powered for a whole day's worth of use with just a ten-minute charge.

The MX700 has a new comfortable contoured right-handed shape with a continuous key plate and eight programmable navigation buttons. The mouse is painted with a blue/black surface and has highly polished silver accents. Now available for $79.95 USD.

  • MX™500 Optical Mouse - An advanced mouse with the same next-generation shape and design as the MX700, but with a standard corded connection. The MX500 offers the same quick access to eight programmable buttons, and is finished in a striking midnight black and dark gray. Now available for $49.95 USD.

  • MX™300 Optical Mouse - The entry point of the MX performance mouse series is a cable connected mouse with an ambidextrous design that allows the mouse to fit comfortably in either the left or right hand. Navigation tools for this mouse include a Quick Switch Program Selector button and scroll wheel. With a midnight black and dark gray surface, the MX300 is now available for $39.95USD

"We've invested over 40,000 hours of research and development in the engineering of the MX Series. Our dedication to superior performance and commitment to aesthetic detail have fully addressed high-end needs in a great industrial design," said Chris Bull, director of marketing for pointing devices at Logitech. "With over ten years of leadership in cordless technology and more than 27 million cordless products sold, we have the technical expertise to deliver for today's advanced PC users."

About Specialized Navigation

MX700 and MX500 performance mice enhance user control with several specialized navigation tools including Internet forward and back buttons that are within easy reach of the thumb. A Quick Switch Program Selector button is conveniently located on top of the mouse to easily jump between open applications on your desktop. Logitech's proprietary Cruise Control™ scrolling system provides rapid scrolling through large Web pages and long documents by just holding the buttons above and below the scroll wheel. The scroll wheel can then be used for line-by-line accuracy.

About MX Optical Engine

The MX Optical Engine features improvements to nearly every aspect of the system, outperforming previous designs and establishes a new benchmark in optical tracking.  Optical mice operate by "taking a picture" of the surface on which they are operating, and then compare the images sequentially to detect the speed and direction of movement. For the MX Series, Logitech worked with Agilent Technologies to develop a revolutionary new 800 dpi sensor that captures up to 4.7 megapixels every second, more than any other mouse available today. The increase in image processing power ensures a smooth and accurate cursor motion even for quick hand movements up to 10G's of acceleration. This advancement in optical engineering also delivers superior tracking on a much broader range of surfaces than ever, giving users the freedom to work how and where they want.

About Fast RF Cordless Technology

All of Logitech's cordless peripherals for the desktop are based on proven digital radio technology, which ensures reliable performance within a six-foot radius of the receiver with no line-of-sight requirement. The new Fast RF advances cordless performance even further by delivering the same level of responsiveness that users have come to expect when using a corded mouse. Fast RF provides advancements in the three areas that most challenge cordless mice: report rate, transmission speed and latency. By increasing the cordless report rate to 125 reports per second, Fast RF matches the rate of USB cable connection. This, in combination with an increase in transmission speed and a reduction in latency delivers the smoothness and precision that was previously known in only corded mice.

The Logitech MX Performance Series of mice are compatible with Windows® 98, Windows® 2000, Windows® Millennium Edition and Windows® XP as well as Apple's Mac® OS 8.6 and higher, including Mac OS X.
