A Band’s Band

March is a huge month for music. Bands from around the world gravitate to Austin, TX for SXSW. And this “unofficially” launches the touring season. Who’s going to pick up the buzz? Who’s going to get media attention? It’s all on the table. This is make or break it time. But what about the bands that aren’t playing the festival? What about bands that take a completely different route?

This month, we are showcasing music from 2 very different artists: The Books and David Berkeley. David Berkeley is a singer/songwriter with great melodies and so much emotion that he could be singing in Greek for all I care - the tones and emotions shine through so clearly that it doesn’t matter if you can understand him or not. And then there are The Books. The Books can best be described as a band’s band. Their melodies are not approachable. They don’t have a hook. And it takes a few listens to really even find a crack to hold on to. But that is what music is. Music is a challenge and a question. And when you listen to both artists side by side, think about the similarities rather than the differences.
