Rest in Peace John

We are honored to showcase some of the most relevant and touching music this month in our Artists to Watch program. of Montreal just released a short folk EP – as folk is interpreted and defined by their creative spirit. And the late and great John Martyn released a posthumous album that was compiled with love by longtime friend and Grammy Winning producer Jim Tullio. Each album is moving in its own sense and when combined into a complete listening experience, something deep happens. The music of John Martyn is so raw and haunting – while of Monreal’s music is so layered, complex, catchy yet also eerily haunting.

These are musicians of different eras and different genres yet they are speaking the universal language. Their music really captures that essence and that longing. John’s song Heaven and Earth is foreboding and brooding and is tragic when taken with his passing. And of Montreal’s song Black Lion Massacre is the darkest yet recorded. Music doesn’t always need to be pop and upbeat.

Until next month! Go and see some music that moves you.
