Summer is Ripe with New Music
Ultimate Ears Artists to Watch Update for August 2009
The end of summer is ripe with new CD's and new artists. This month, the Ultimate Ears Artists to Watch program is jam packed with new music as well as a tribute to an old favorite. We are honored to feature Fishbone - the band that Gwen Stefani credits as her idol and inspiration. Over their 22 year old career, Fishbone has influenced The Red Hot Chili Peppers, No Doubt, Janes Addiction and countless other stadium acts. And while Fishbone never gained the popularity as some of their followers, they are known as an artist's artist. A band for music aficionados. All of that and they put on the best show that I have ever seen. It is a party that I remember to this very day.
We also are featuring a new country act that was heavily promoted in the #1 hit movie "Race to Witch Mountain" staring Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson. The band is called Brokedown Cadillac and 5 of their songs were played in the movie while 2 of them made it onto Disney's official soundtrack. While recording for the movie, they recorded and released a separate album that we are showcasing. Their managers contacted us directly through our "submission" link on through the program. This just highlights how UE supports emerging artists on all levels. If you know of a band that should be on our program, please do not hesitate to let us know about them.
Speaking of emerging artists, this month we are giving a sneak peak into a highly anticipated debut project from a band called Young and Divine. They trend towards a younger audience - pop-punk in the likes of Fall Out Boy and judging by some of their Myspace action and advanced promos, they may be set to have the next big summer anthem. Their album releases on RCA at the end of August. Fans will say they heard it here first.
On a similar vein, we are debuting new songs from the Mason Proper album witch is due out in September. This new album is pure indie-pop genius and the album should go on to make many of the "best of" lists for 2009. Mason Proper is an alternative act out of Michigan and they amassed quite a following while touring in support of their first album and EP.
And lastly, we have what can best be described as a blues/folk singer from Sweden called The Tallest Man in The World. He sings in English and he is constantly compared to early Dylan. It is hard to not like his music (even if you in fact don't like early Dylan;) A friend was mentioning his favorite bands and he listed The Tallest Man in The World. I had never heard of them prior to that interaction and I'm thankful that I looked them up and tracked them down to be part of the program. And I am thankful that I am in a position to share great music with all of our listeners.
