You Heard It Here First

If you don’t recognize the names Black Box Revelation or Theophilus London, then don’t worry — you’re in the majority. Both of these acts are relatively unknown outside of the music insider club but they won’t be for long. And you heard them both here first!

Theophilus London recently released a series of wildly popular independent mixtapes and the Lovers Holiday EP that landed him a performance on The Late Show with David Letterman earlier this year. His debut album Timez Are Weird will debut this month — to much anticipation and expectations. His sound is new and fresh, combining global influences and trends and when you think about him in context of his Brooklyn upbringing, his music starts to make a lot of sense.

What doesn’t make as much sense is how 2 young 20 year olds from Brussels, Belgium made one of the heaviest and best rock albums of the year. The Black Box Revelation already released 2 albums before but neither of them comes close to capturing the raw essence that’s present on My Perception. And that probably has something to do with the fact that their most recent album was produced by Alain Johannes – the producer behind Queens of The Stone Age, Chris Cornell, Them Crooked Vultures.

My Perception was recorded in the states and while the band already enjoys success in Europe, 2011 should see them exploding onto the US music scene. It won’t be long before we see both these acts in giant arena tours. But before we get there, make sure to see them as they pass through your town now.

Until next month, enjoy!
